How to keep your website and Business Profile consistent
What we will go through
- Why consistency builds trust
- Which details must match
- How to link your profile to the right page
- How to run a quick consistency check
Short answer
Website-to-profile consistency means your website and Google Business Profile show the same business name, address, phone number, hours, services, and categories. Link each profile to its matching page. When details match, customers trust what they see and Google can confirm your information. Mismatches cause confusion, wrong edits, and lost customers.
Why consistency matters
Google checks your website to confirm what your profile says. When details match, Google can trust them. When they differ, Google may show the wrong information, or accept a suggested edit you did not want.
Customers notice too. A different phone number on the website and profile makes people wonder which one works.
What must match
Compare these on your profile and website:
- business name
- address, or service areas
- phone number
- opening hours, including holidays
- services and products
- categories and the words on your pages
Small format differences, like “St.” and “Street,” are fine. Different numbers or addresses are not.
Link to the right page
Set the profile’s website link to the best page:
- one location: the homepage
- several branches: each branch’s location page
You can add a UTM tag to the link, like ?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gbp. This lets you see profile visits in Google Analytics. Module 8 explains it.
Run a consistency check
Make a simple table with three columns: detail, profile, website. Fill each row and mark mismatches.
Check it after any change, like a new number, new hours, or a move.
Show your profile on your site
Add an embedded Google Map and a link to leave a review. This helps customers find you and connects your site with your profile.
Try it
Sort each detail.
Must this detail match exactly?
-
Phone number
Must match. Customers and Google need one working number.
-
'Rizal St.' vs 'Rizal Street'
Fine to differ slightly. Abbreviations are fine if the address is the same.
-
Opening hours
Must match. Different hours send customers at the wrong time.
-
Business name
Must match. Use the same real-world name.
