Setting a Google Ads budget
Covered here
- How daily budget and monthly budget work in Google Ads
- How to estimate clicks from your budget in pesos
- A safe starting budget for a small business
Short answer
Google Ads costs what you choose to spend. You set an average daily budget, and Google charges per click. Monthly spend is about your daily budget times 30.4. To estimate clicks, divide your budget by the average cost per click. Many small businesses start testing with ₱300 to ₱1,000 a day.
Daily budget and monthly budget
In Google Ads, you set an average daily budget for each campaign.
Google may spend more on busy days and less on slow days. On a single day, it can spend up to twice your daily budget. Over a month, it will not charge more than your daily budget times 30.4.
Example: a ₱500 daily budget means a monthly limit of about ₱15,200.
How to estimate clicks
Use this simple formula: estimated clicks = budget ÷ average cost per click.
| Daily budget | Avg. CPC | Clicks per day | Clicks per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₱300 | ₱15 | 20 | about 600 |
| ₱500 | ₱25 | 20 | about 600 |
| ₱1,000 | ₱40 | 25 | about 750 |
These CPC values are examples only. Real costs depend on your industry, city, and competition. You will find real CPC estimates with Keyword Planner in Lesson 1.3.
How much to start with
Start with a budget that buys enough clicks to learn from. A good rule: aim for 10 to 20 clicks a day.
- Find the average CPC for your main keywords.
- Multiply it by 15 clicks. That is your test daily budget.
- Commit to at least 30 days before judging results.
- Only spend money you can afford to lose while learning.
Example: a Cebu catering business sees an average CPC of ₱30. 15 clicks × ₱30 = ₱450 a day, or about ₱13,700 a month.

Common mistakes
- Starting too small to learn. Two clicks a day tells you almost nothing.
- Panicking when one day goes over. The monthly limit protects you.
- Judging results after one week. Give it at least a month.
- Forgetting taxes. Check your billing settings for any VAT added to your charges.
Your action
Pick a test daily budget using the 15-clicks rule. Multiply it by 30.4. If the monthly number is not comfortable, adjust before you launch.
