How to build location and service page architecture

Inside this lesson

  • Common site structures for local businesses
  • How to plan clean URLs
  • How to link services and locations
  • When to combine service and location pages

Short answer

Local SEO site architecture is how your service and location pages are organized and linked. Most businesses use a services section and a locations section, with clean URLs like /services/aircon-repair/ and /locations/pasig/. Link each location to its services and back. Add service plus location pages only where demand and real content justify them.

Why structure matters

Site architecture is how your pages are organized. A clear structure helps customers find what they need. It also helps Google find and understand every page.

A simple structure that works

Most local businesses can use this:

/ Homepage
/services/ Services hub page
/services/aircon-cleaning/
/services/aircon-repair/
/locations/ Locations hub page
/locations/pasig/
/locations/marikina/

The hub pages list and link to every service or location.

Clean URLs

Good URL structure is short, readable, and uses hyphens:

  • Good: /locations/pasig/
  • Weak: /page?id=4821&branch=2

Use lowercase letters. Do not change URLs often, because old links break.

  • Each location page links to the services offered there.
  • Each service page links to the locations that offer it.
  • Breadcrumbs show the path: Home / Locations / Pasig.

Keep most pages within three clicks of the homepage.

When to add service-location pages

A service-location page, like /pasig/aircon-repair/, targets one service in one area. Build these only when:

  • people search that exact combination
  • you truly serve it there
  • you can add unique content, like local projects and reviews

Otherwise, a good service page and a good location page are enough.

Quick quiz

1. What is a hub page?
2. Which URL is cleaner?
3. When should you build a service-location page?

Common mistakes

  • Hundreds of copied city pages. Build only what you can make useful.
  • Orphan pages. Every page should be linked from a hub or related page.
  • Changing URLs often. Old links and rankings can be lost.
