Understanding Google Business Profile performance

Your roadmap for this lesson

  • Where to find performance data
  • What each metric means
  • How to read the search terms report
  • How to spot changes worth investigating

Short answer

Google Business Profile performance shows how customers find and interact with your profile. It reports views by platform and device, the search terms that showed your business, and interactions like calls, messages, bookings, direction requests, and website clicks. Compare months and seasons to spot growth, drops, and which actions customers take most.

Where to find it

Search your business name on Google while signed in, or open Business Profile Manager. Choose Performance.

You can change the date range. Compare month to month, and the same month last year.

Profile views

Profile views show how many people saw your profile. They are split by platform and device:

  • Google Search, mobile
  • Google Search, desktop
  • Google Maps, mobile
  • Google Maps, desktop

A restaurant may see most views from Maps on mobile. A law firm may see more from Search.

Search terms

The search terms report lists the searches that showed your profile. You will see two kinds:

  • branded terms, like your business name
  • discovery terms, like “dentist Legazpi”

Growing discovery terms means new customers are finding you.

Interactions

Interactions count customer actions:

  • calls
  • messages, if enabled
  • bookings, if available for your category
  • direction requests
  • website clicks

These are closer to real customers than views.

Spot changes

When a number moves sharply, ask why:

  • Seasonality: resorts peak in summer, gift shops in December.
  • Ranking changes: check your rank tracker.
  • Profile changes: new categories, edits, or suspensions.

Write short notes each month about changes you made. They help explain the data later.

Try it

Sort each event.

Is this a view or an interaction?

  • Someone saw your profile on Maps

  • Someone tapped Call

  • Someone tapped Directions

  • Someone saw your profile on Search desktop

Quick quiz

1. Which is an interaction?
2. What do discovery search terms show?
3. Why compare with the same month last year?

Common mistakes

  • Only watching views. Interactions matter more.
  • Ignoring seasonality. Compare like with like.
  • Not writing notes. You forget what changed.

Your action

Read the performance data of your chosen business, if you have access. Your progress saves on this device.
