How to map keywords to locations and services

Short answer
Local keyword mapping means assigning each local keyword to one page or profile. Map broad brand and category searches to your Google Business Profile and homepage. Map each service to a service page, and each strong service plus location pair to a location page. One main keyword per page prevents overlap and shows which pages to build.
What a keyword map is
A keyword map is a simple table. Each row is a page. Each page gets one primary keyword and a few supporting keywords.
| Page | Primary keyword | Supporting keywords |
|---|---|---|
| Homepage | Juan’s Aircon Services | aircon services Pasig |
| Aircon cleaning page | aircon cleaning Pasig | aircon cleaning service, split type cleaning |
| Aircon repair page | aircon repair Pasig | aircon not cooling, aircon leaking |
| Marikina page | aircon cleaning Marikina | aircon services Marikina |
How to assign keywords
Use this order:
- Brand and broad category searches go to the homepage and your Google Business Profile.
- Each main service gets its own service page.
- Strong service plus location pairs get location pages, but only where you truly serve.
- Informational questions go to blog guides.
Avoid cannibalization
Keyword cannibalization happens when two pages target the same search. Google may pick the wrong one, or rank neither well.
If two pages share a primary keyword, merge them or change one page’s focus.
Find content gaps
When a valuable keyword has no page, you have a content gap. List these as pages to build. Module 4 shows how to build them well.
Link the map to your profile
Your Google Business Profile usually links to your homepage or the matching location page. Use the map to decide which one.
Try it
Map each keyword to the right page type.
