How to optimize business information and services
In this lesson
- Which profile fields matter most
- How to write a helpful business description
- How to add services and attributes
- Why hours and special hours matter
Short answer
To optimize your Google Business Profile information, fill in every field that applies. Write a clear description of up to 750 characters, set regular and holiday hours, add every service with short descriptions, choose accurate attributes, and keep your phone and website current. Complete, accurate profiles help customers decide and help Google match searches.
Fill in every field that applies
A complete profile helps customers decide faster. It also gives Google more facts to match against searches.
Check these fields first: name, categories, address or service area, hours, phone, website, description, services, and attributes.
Write a useful business description
You get up to 750 characters. Use them to explain what you do, who you serve, and what makes you different.
A good example for a Legazpi bakery:
“Family-run bakery in Legazpi City since 2009. We bake pan de sal fresh every morning, plus custom cakes for birthdays and weddings. Order ahead for pickup or delivery within Albay.”
Do not add links, discounts, or ALL CAPS. Write for people, and mention your main services naturally.
Set hours and special hours
Wrong hours cause wasted trips and angry reviews. Set your regular hours, then add special hours for holidays like Holy Week, Christmas, and local fiestas.
Google may ask customers if your hours are correct. Keeping them current protects your profile from wrong edits.
Add services and attributes
Add every service you offer, with a short description. A car repair shop might list “Change oil,” “Aircon repair,” and “Tire alignment” separately.
Then choose attributes. Common ones include payment options, accessibility, and amenities like free Wi-Fi. Customers filter by some of these, so they matter.
Keep contact details working
Test your phone number. Make sure your website link works and goes to the right page. Messaging and booking features, if available, should be answered fast.
Try it
Decide what fits Google’s description rules.
Can this go in the business description?
-
Family-run bakery in Legazpi since 2009
Allowed in description. It describes the business.
-
Visit www.example.com for 50% OFF
Not allowed. Links and promotions do not belong in the description.
-
We deliver custom cakes within Albay
Allowed in description. It explains a real service and area.
-
BEST BAKERY IN THE PHILIPPINES!!!
Not allowed. Hype in all caps breaks the guidelines and reads as spam.
Quick quiz
Common mistakes
- Leaving services empty. Every service is another clue for Google and customers.
- Forgetting holiday hours. Customers trust the profile, then find a closed door.
- Writing a sales pitch. Descriptions should inform, not shout.
