JavaScript rendering and server-side accessibility

In this lesson

  • Why many AI bots miss JavaScript-loaded content
  • How to check what a bot sees in raw HTML
  • Which rendering fixes to ask your developer for

Short answer

Many AI crawlers read only the raw HTML a server sends and do not run JavaScript. If your text, prices, or product details load with JavaScript after the page opens, those bots may see an empty page. Googlebot can render JavaScript, but most AI crawlers cannot reliably do so. Server-side rendering or static generation puts the content in the HTML so every bot can read it.

What the bot actually sees

When a browser opens a page, it downloads HTML, then runs JavaScript that may add more content. Googlebot does this rendering step. Many AI crawlers, including the main OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity bots, mostly read the first HTML response. Anything that appears only after scripts run may be invisible to them.

How to check in two minutes

Step 1 of 5

Open your key page

Choose a product, service, or pricing page that matters for sales.

Fixes to request

For new sites, choose a framework with server-side rendering or static generation. For existing single-page apps, ask about prerendering key pages. For widgets, move critical facts like prices, hours, and FAQ answers into the HTML and let the widget enhance them.

Example: A Makati SaaS startup built its pricing page in client-side React. ChatGPT kept saying “pricing is not publicly listed.” After switching the page to static generation, the plans and peso prices appeared in the raw HTML and in AI answers within a month.

Also avoid putting key text inside images only. Add the same information as real text.

Quick quiz

1. Why might an AI bot miss your product prices?
2. Which approach puts content in raw HTML?

Your action

Key terms

Raw HTML
The page code the server sends before any scripts run.
Client-side rendering (CSR)
The browser builds the page with JavaScript.
Server-side rendering (SSR)
The server sends a fully built page.
Static site generation (SSG)
Pages are built ahead of time as plain HTML.
View source
The browser option that shows raw HTML.

Questions beginners ask

Is my WordPress site affected?

Usually not. Standard WordPress pages are server-rendered. Check page builders, sliders, and tabs that load content later.

Does Google penalize JavaScript sites?

No. Google renders JavaScript, though sometimes with delay. The risk is mainly for other AI crawlers.
