Google Search Console performance data
In this lesson
- The four Search Console performance metrics
- How to filter by query, page, and device
- How Search Console and GA4 work together
Short answer
Google Search Console shows how your site performs in Google Search before anyone clicks. Its performance report gives impressions, clicks, click-through rate, and average position, filtered by query, page, country, device, and date. GA4 shows what happens after the click, so using both gives you the full organic search picture.
Performance metrics
- Impressions: how often the site appeared in results.
- Clicks: how often users clicked through.
- CTR: clicks divided by impressions.
- Average position: typical ranking position.
Filter by query, page, country, device, and date. Search Console also reports indexing problems, page experience, and manual penalties.
Before and after the click
GA4 shows what happens after the click. Search Console shows what happens before it. Link the two in GA4 to see search queries next to on-site behavior. For SEO-specific analysis, see our SEO for Beginners course.
