Meta Tag Generator
Fill in your page details to generate the essential HTML head tags: title, description, canonical, robots, Open Graph, and X (Twitter) cards.
Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server.
Paste these inside the <head> of your page. Each page should have its own unique title, description and canonical.
What the Meta Tag Generator does
A meta tag generator writes the essential tags that belong in a page’s head section: the title, meta description, canonical link, robots directive, viewport, and social sharing tags. Fill in a short form and copy ready-made code.
Open Graph tags control how a link looks when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, Messenger, and Viber: which image, title, and description appear. X (Twitter) card tags do the same on X. Without them, platforms guess, and often choose the wrong image or text.
How to use it
- Fill in the page detailsEnter the title, description, page URL, and the image you want shown when the page is shared.
- Choose robots and canonical settingsMost pages should be index, follow, with a canonical pointing to their own URL.
- Copy the generated tagsCopy the code from the output box.
- Paste into the head sectionAdd the tags between head and /head, or into your CMS or SEO plugin fields. Then test by sharing the link.
Tips for better results
- Use a share image of 1200 by 630 pixels. It displays well on Facebook, LinkedIn, and X.
- If you use an SEO plugin like Yoast or Rank Math, enter these values in the plugin instead of pasting code, to avoid duplicate tags.
- Use the Facebook Sharing Debugger to refresh how Facebook shows a page after you change its tags.
Frequently asked questions
Do I still need the meta keywords tag?
No. Google has ignored the meta keywords tag for years, so this tool leaves it out.
What does the canonical tag do?
It tells search engines which URL is the main version of a page, which helps when the same content is reachable at several addresses.
Why is my old image still showing on Facebook?
Facebook caches link previews. Run the URL through the Facebook Sharing Debugger and click Scrape Again.
