HTML Formatter

Paste messy HTML to indent it cleanly, or minify it to strip whitespace and comments.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server.

What the HTML Formatter does

An HTML formatter, also called a beautifier, takes code that is crammed onto one line or badly indented and lays it out with one tag per line and clear nesting. Readable code is easier to check, edit, and debug.

The minify option does the opposite. It strips extra spaces, line breaks, and comments to make the file smaller, which can trim page weight for templates and email code. Formatting changes only whitespace, never how the page looks.

How to use it

  1. Paste your HTMLCopy code from View page source, a CMS code view, or an email template and paste it into the input box.
  2. Choose format or minifyFormat to read and edit the code. Minify when the code is final and you want the smallest version.
  3. Review the resultScan the indented output for tags that do not line up. Uneven nesting often points to a missing closing tag.
  4. Copy it backCopy the output and paste it where you need it.

Tips for better results

  • Format first when auditing a page: titles, headings, canonicals, and meta robots tags are far easier to spot in clean code.
  • Keep a formatted copy for editing and only minify the final version, since minified code is hard for people to read.
  • Minifying will not fix broken HTML. Check the structure in the HTML Renderer if something looks wrong.

Frequently asked questions

Does formatting change how my page looks?

No. Browsers ignore extra whitespace between tags, so the page displays the same. Text inside pre and textarea tags is kept as it is.

Is minified HTML better for SEO?

Search engines read both versions the same way. Minifying can make pages slightly faster, which helps users, but content and structure matter far more.

Is my code sent anywhere?

No. Formatting happens in your browser, so private templates and client code stay on your device.
